How To Design Mesh Banners For Festivals

Designing mesh banners for outdoor and indoor events is an important step, which will determine the value of your mesh banners. A well designed banner for festivals, shows and outdoor events can set the tone instantly. Having seen literally thousands of banners, we’re happy to share some important tips on designing for mesh banner printing:

1. Bright Colors vs. Pastel Colors. No question about it, the biggest design killer when designing stage backdrops and other mesh banners is pastel colors. These colors tend to blend with each other, which creates a camouflage effect that will obscure your logo or the actual important parts of the art. If your design for the mesh banner starts out with soft pastel colors, change them or increase the contrast. Bright colors on outdoor banners and indoor banners will shift the eye to important logo at the center and make your design POP!

2. Cut out the extra flourishes. Then cut out some more. Start out the design process with a minimal vision for your design. Then, after you’re done cut out the  extra touches where possible. Remember the singular goal when designing stage backdrop or stage banner: draw as many eyeballs as possible. This is especially important for large festival – a 30′ stage backdrop will need  to be seen by thousands of people at the show. The less extra, needless flourishes there are in the artwork, the better.

3. Logo, logo, logo. It doesn’t matter if the main piece of art is a graphic that is unrelated to the company logo; regardless of the design, you need to find a way to incorporate the logo clearly and loudly. Mesh banners are intended for use as mass media monsters that say one thing, all the time to thousands of viewers, and they need to know who is behind the message on the banner.
